It is such a beautiful day! The sun is out, women are wearing gingham dresses, Prada sunglasses and floppy sunhats while the men look relaxed in linen suits with Ferragamo loafers. Such a lovely day calls for a trip to the ballpark, and what would a day watching the boys of summer be without sampling the finest MLB culinary offerings. Discover the best and worst of the 30 major league parks. Enjoy today’s fun site, Finding the Hits, Avoiding the Errors at the NY Times! I recommend the crab cakes in San Francisco!

#21 - Mint Juleps
Kentucky Derby Mint Julep
Price: $1,000
All rich people love to drink. Give a rich person a stiff cocktail and a cigarette holder and they can stay out until dawn…of course they never do, it would be improper. Unlike the masses, rich people do not pick up a flat of Pabst Blue Ribbon or a bottle of Wild Turkey or loudly proclaim “it’s Miller time!” Instead, rich people tailor their drink of choice to the social gathering at hand. As an example, strawberries and champagne are lovely at Wimbledon, a Manhattan at The Campbell Apartment in New York will do, a Caesar (for our Canadian readers) or a Bloody Mary with brunch is quite civilized and perhaps the most famous, a Mint Julep at the Kentucky Derby is a must have.
Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, serves over 120,000 mint juleps each year. While this delightful cocktail of crushed ice, bourbon and fresh mint sweetened with syrup may fit the bill for the common man, the rich prefer a more prestigious concoction of this historic favorite. Each year the Kentucky Derby crafts 50 special edition mint juleps available to their wealthiest patrons for $1,000 per drink. Imagine…crushed ice from the Arctic Circle sweetened with hand-ground sugar from the island Republic of Mauritius, fresh Moroccan mint and Kentucky bourbon blended and served in an engraved gold-plated mug and sipped through a sterling silver straw. Custom storage box and an embroidered silk handkerchief, designed by the makers of jockey silks, make this a must-have for any patron of the sport of kings. Of course the proceeds go to charity but that’s hardly the point is it?

We can’t all live in New York City but if you have been, you have visited Central Park. The whopping 843 acres is an amazing place to wander around, people watch, escape the hustle and bustle of 5th Ave or go jogging! The New York Times provides a really great interactive map of the park including clickable photos and audio guides to the running trails…I feel like I should pop into the Guggenheim! #9 - Bugatti Grand Touring Automobiles
Veyron FBG Par Hermès
Price: $2,300,000
Rich people love Bugatti Veyron automobiles. These incredible machines make a Lamborghini look like a rusted out VW van that your daughter’s future ex-boyfriend drives. Bugattis are among the most exclusive cars that money can buy. Only 300 Veyron cars will be constructed and special models like the FBG Par Hermès are so elite that only 5 will be built.
Verse yourself on the finer details of Bugatti and you will have plenty to discuss with your wealthy counterparts. All Bugatti Veyrons are hand assembled by eight craftsmen in a gorgeous Gunter Henn designed facility in Molsheim, Alsace over three weeks and many owners visit the factory to attain their newly-crafted luxury automobile. Technically, the cars are unrivalled. A maximum speed of 408.47km/h made possible by a 16 cylinder, 8L engine that generates 1,001 HP. As a comparison, Formula 1 racecars churn out 700-800 HP! More impressive than their raw power is acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and back to a standstill within 2.3 seconds. This is made possible by titanium, carbon, magnesium, and aluminum construction and three drive configurations to facilitate top speed.
Bugatti pampers their wealthy clients with a rich host of extras including GPS, Bluetooth, rear-view mirror LED display, a Burmester sound system, and an exclusive Bugatti PDA to track lap times, tire pressure, gas consumption and key telemetry data. The five select Veyron Hermès customers will also receive a bespoke suitcase designed to fit in the vehicle’s storage area.
Do not wait to arrange for your own, on March 10, 2009 the company announced that the 200th Bugatti Veyron left the factory for a customer in the Middle East. Coincidentally, it was the über exclusive FBG Hermès model. The owner joins the company of Simon Cowell, Tom Cruise, Ralph Lauren, Tim Cahill, Nigo and Thomas Bscher as rumored Bugatti Veyron owners. With this kind of success, Bugatti is unlikely to follow their parent company’s lead with a “Surprisingly Ordinary Prices” advertising campaign in the foreseeable future. Imagine that…”Das Car” is a Volkswagen!

#7 - Polo Tournament Patron
Polo Tournament Patron
Price: $1,720,000
Stuff rich people love includes sports that the rest of the world does not pay attention to including aerobatics, shooting and polo. Most attractive to the wealthy is that the horse is central to the match and money can buy happiness and success. Imagine spending $1,000 on a basketball that guarantees you will jump higher and score more often. Polo has been a global pastime for more than a century with the Calcutta Polo Club breaking ground in 1862. Fortunately, finding common ground with the wealthy is as easy as a basic understanding of one of the fastest and surprisingly physical sports in the world.
To speak the language of polo you need to understand the basics of Polo. Each team on the field consists of 4 players and their horses. The object is to strike the ball through the posts at the opponent’s end line, the most goals wins. One match is typically 8 chukkas, or periods, which last 7 minutes each. What truly distinguishes this as stuff that rich people love…polo players typically switch horses after each chukka – that’s 8 horses per rider per game!
Furthermore, just as jockeys saddle up the thoroughbreds, the wealthy do not ride their ponies in matches. A patron (pronounced pah-trone) will hire a team of pros to compete in high goal tournaments at a cost of as much as $150,000 per pro for a weekend and provide the horses at a cost of more than $35,000 per horse. Is there a better way to spend $1.7M over a weekend at the club?
